How to Become a Member of WPS
Joining Wolverhampton Photographic Society is
easy and we invite you to be part of our group
Simply come along to any of our
Tuesday evening club nights at the
Albert Lawn Tennis Club and you can
complete an application form and
pay your membership fee. You can
also use the link on this page to
download and complete the form in
advance to bring with you. Payment
may be by cash, cheque or bank
transfer.
How much does it cost to
join?
There is an annual
membership fee and a small
payment, or ‘Door Fee’, each
time you attend a meeting.
The Door Fee stays the same
throughout the season but
special events may require a
ticket to be purchased,
perhaps where the event costs
are much higher than normal
or there are a fixed number of
places.
Do I need to have a fancy
camera to become a
member?
If you intend to take photographs you will of course need a camera,
but the most important thing is simply that you have an interest in
photography and a desire to learn and share ideas and experiences
with those who have a similar interest to you.
Our members own a wide range of equipment and some of it is by no
means the top-end of the scale. There are a wide range of interests
too, including landscape photography, portraiture, nature/wildlife,
travel, urban photography, abstract/creative and more. There is also
a group within the club who create audio-visual (AV) presentations
where you set a sequence of photographs to music. Several members
are keen on landscape astrophotography.
I know nothing about the controls on the camera. Is there
something for me?
Yes, definitely! There are regular photography workshops on
alternate Thursday evenings throughout the season which look at a
wide range of photography-related topics from techniques and skills
to how to process your digital images. There are practical workshops
too and you will find fellow members a rich source of help and
advice. It is worth noting Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop are the
most widely used software titles by WPS members.
What facilities are there at the club?
WPS meet at Linden House which has a large car park with ramp
access to the main entrance. Next to our meeting room there is a
licenced bar serving a wide range of drinks as well as tea and coffee.
Do I have to be a member to attend?
You can come along and attend as a visitor by paying a higher Door
Fee but we encourage regular visitors to join WPS and therefore gain
the benefit that full membership brings.
What are the benefits of being a member?
•
An interesting programme of events and presentations from
established photographers
•
Exchanging ideas and learning new skills with a group who
have similar interests as yours
•
Viewing, or taking part in, our informal competitions and
formal national competitions
•
Access to regular workshops which focus on specific techniques
or types of photography
•
Being able to participate in organised club visits
•
Improving your enjoyment of photography in an encouraging,
friendly and social environment
As a member, can I bring a someone else as a guest?
Yes of course. Guests simply pay the higher Door Fee on the night
but if attending regularly we would of course recommend becoming
a member.
